Very good condition antique US Model 1884 Trapdoor Springfield Cavalry Carbine in .45-70 caliber. Lock is marked “U.S. / SPRINGFIELD” with the American eagle. 22” barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks and a Buffington rear sight. This gun is marked “S.P.F. A39” in the left side buttstock for State Police Force, Company A, Weapon 39, and was one of only 440 rebuilt for the Pennsylvania State Police in 1907 and 1909. Gun has the correct “star” marking behind the serial number, indicating a rebuilt carbine. Mechanically functions fine and tight. Metal finish is original blue showing wear to brown and gray patinas. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Has the Model 1890 “hump” barrel band. Complete with original cleaning rod set and ruptured case extractor that store in the butt trap. An interesting Trapdoor Springfield Carbine that will make an excellent addition to a collection.
