Very good condition original French Model 1854 Heavy Cavalry Saber. Massive 34 ½” blade has original bright finish with some scattered gray and brown patina. Brass hilt has attractive patina. Leather covered grip shows some wear and has tight wire wrap. Fitted in correct original steel scabbard that has brown patina and no dents. Scabbard has a French unit marking on the edge. Apparently, this sword was captured by the Germans during the Franco-Prussian War, as there is also a German Heavy Cavalry unit marking on the scabbard. A hard to find, massive and impressive cavalry saber that will make an excellent addition to a collection.
