Very good condition antique French Mle 1866 Chassepot needle-fire rifle in 11mm caliber that has French-language Potts & Hunt London manufacturer and model designation markings on the receiver. Barrel is dated 1869. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers except the clearing rod, including barrel, bayonet lug, bolt body, cocking piece, and stock. Mechanically functions fine and has intact needle firing pin and bolt head obturator. Metal finish is correct bright, with some scattered gray and brown patina. Has been cleaned. Bore is very good and bright with strong rifling and a little pitting. Stock was lightly cleaned and refinished and shows some normal handling marks. Left side buttstock has a matching serial number. Complete with an original nonmatching numbered Chassepot clearing rod. A very rare Potts & Hunt manufactured Chassepot rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection.
