Good condition original antique Civil War Remington Model 1863 Zouave Rifle Musket in .58 percussion caliber. Lock has nice Remington and American eagle markings and dated 1863. Barrel has “VP” and eagle head proof marks and is also dated 1863. Also marked “STEEL” with “R.K.” inspector initials. Mechanically functions fine. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear. Barrel has some dings. Original sights and bayonet lug are present. Bore has a ring near the muzzle, otherwise very good and bright with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some wear and handling marks. There is a hairline between the breech tang and rear of the lock. Right side of stock also has a hairline in front of the lock. Left side of stock has two inspector cartouches opposite the lock. Complete with correct original ramrod and bayonet. Bayonet is in good condition. Marked “C” on the right side of the guard and left ricasso, and “B.H.” on top of the grip. 20 1/8” blade has gray patina. Brass hilt has deep untouched patina. Lock button and leaf spring function fine. Fitted in correct original leather scabbard that has brass throat and tip. Leather shows some wear and flaking, stitching shows some loss. A classic Civil War Remington Zouave Rifle and bayonet that will make a fine addition to a collection.
