ANTIQUE BRITISH MARK I* LEE METFORD RIFLE

ANTIQUE BRITISH MARK I* LEE METFORD RIFLE-L.S.A.CO. 1891-UNIT MARKED
BOER WAR-8 SHOT MAGAZINE-EXTREMELY SCARCE

Good condition antique British Mark I* Lee Metford Rifle in .303 British caliber that was manufactured by L.S.A. Co. (London Small Arms Company) in 1891, as marked on the right side of the receiver socket. Rifle is NOT import marked and was never converted to a Lee Enfield. Still has the unique 8-round Metford magazine. Complete with original volley sights, dustcover, and magazine cutout. The top of the rear sight is missing. Metal finish is original blue showing some wear and some light pitting. Rifle is marked “DP” for Drill Purpose” on the barrel flat and “EY” for Emergency Use” on the underside of the forend. Bore is poor, dark and pitted. Stock has been refinished and shows some handling marks. Right side buttstock has a “LONDON” roundel cartouche and a brass unit marking disc that is stamped “4.H.L.I.” for 4th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, with a “5.94” (May 1894) date. A very rare Lee Metford Rifle that will make a fine addition to a collection.
