Very good condition antique Prussian Model 1854/68 Dreyse needle gun rifle. This interesting rifle was a breech-loading conversion of Austrian Model 1854 Lorenz Rifles captured by the Prussians during the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. Mechanically functions fine and has intact needle. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers except the bolt and clearing rod. Receiver is marked “S&L SUHL” and dated 1868 and 1869. Nice bright metal finish. Bore is bright and excellent with strong rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some handling marks. Both sides of stock have a few repaired cracks by the receiver. Right side buttstock and underside of receiver have Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Rifle has Garde Grenadier and Landwehr unit markings on the buttplate tang. Complete with original nonmatching numbered clearing rod. Also comes with an original Austrian M1854 Lorenz socket bayonet that is in good condition. Fits rifle OK, but does not go down far enough to allow the lock ring to work. A rare Dreyse needle gun variant that will make an excellent advanced addition to a collection.
