Good condition antique British Lee Enfield Mark I Rifle in .303 British caliber that was manufactured by Enfield in 1896, as marked on the right side of the receiver socket. Rifle is NOT import marked and has matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel. Rear sight and bolt do not match. Dustcover is missing, but original volley sights and magazine cutoff are present. The magazine chain is missing. Original blue finish is mostly worn to the white. Bore is poor, pitted with worn rifling. Stock shows heavy wear. Wrist has some tiny holes from old, now absent, tack decoration. Handguard has cracks and chips. This rifle appears to be an Afghan bringback, but I have no documentation to this effect. It appears that the receiver markings were Afghan added or redone, with the “N” and “F” in Enfield being backwards or otherwise misaligned. A good representative example of an very scarce Boer War era antique Long Lee Enfield Rifle.
