Very good condition Model 1874 Peabody Martini Rifle in .45 Turk caliber that has nice Providence Tool Company manufacturer markings on the left side of the receiver. This is an example of a “Type A” rifle with a safety and was originally intended for the Ottoman contract. However, rifle does not have the Sultan Tughra marking on the right side of the receiver and was instead sold to Japan, bearing kanji markings on the right side of the barrel which translate to “Meiji 15th Year (1882) Gun – 1st Receipt”. Barrel knoxform also has kanji markings of unknown meaning. Mechanically functions fine. Metal finish is original blue showing some normal wear. Bore is dark with good rifling. Stock has original finish and shows some normal handling marks. Complete with correct original cleaning rod. A nice Japanese marked Peabody Martini Rifle for your collection.
