
Good condition pre WWI German GEW 98 Mauser rifle in 8mm Mauser (7.92 x 57) caliber that was manufactured by Danzig Arsenal in 1903, as marked on the receiver. Rifle is NOT import marked and has all matching serial numbers except the extractor, safety, cocking piece, firing pin, and bands. Receiver, bolt, and buttplate are original “in the white” with some gray and brown patina. Remaining metal finish is original blue showing some wear. There is some scattered light pitting. Bore is good, a little gray with average rifling and some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some normal wear and handling marks. Left side of forend has an arsenal repair between the bands. Right side buttstock and undersides of wrist and buttstock have Imperial German proof mark cartouches. Underside of buttstock also has a matching serial number. The unit marking disc in the right side buttstock is stamped “76.R.1.213.” for the 76th (2nd Hanseatic) (Hamburg) Infantry Regiment, Company 1, Weapon 213. Complete with cleaning rod. A good example of an early pre-war GEW 98 Mauser rifle.
